1. Scope and controller
This Privacy Policy describes how ChiefHead (“ChiefHead,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in the GPSCurator Android application (the “App”), package com.chiefhead.gpscurator. It applies only to the App and not to third-party services, websites, devices, operating systems, networks, or applications.
GPSCurator does not require a user account. We do not operate an application server that receives or stores users’ location histories, recorded tracks, route points, NMEA files, or camera frames. The App nevertheless uses third-party services that may process data as described below.

2. Information processed on your device
Depending on the features you choose and the permissions you grant, the App may process the following information locally on your device:
- Approximate and precise device location, including latitude, longitude, accuracy, speed, altitude, heading, time, and related GNSS satellite and NMEA data.
- Motion-sensor readings used for orientation and the Satellite AR view.
- Recorded tracks, route points, exported files, and information you choose to create or import.
- App settings, feature preferences, consent status, and other locally stored configuration data.
- Live camera input used only to render the Satellite AR view. GPSCurator does not intentionally record, transmit, or save camera frames.
3. Purposes and user control
The App processes this information to provide navigation, telemetry, mapping, Satellite AR, route recording, file export, preferences, advertising, consent management, purchase-status verification, security, fraud prevention, and diagnostics. Location and camera processing begins only when you grant the relevant Android permission and use a feature that requires it. Track recording begins only after you explicitly start it.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, processing may be based on your request to use a feature, your consent, our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the App, compliance with law, or another basis permitted by law. Third-party providers determine and disclose their own legal bases for processing under their respective policies.
ChiefHead does not sell users’ recorded tracks, route points, or NMEA files. We do not use locally recorded location histories to build a ChiefHead advertising profile.
4. Local storage, exports, and backups
Recorded tracks, route points, settings, and NMEA files are stored locally in the App’s private storage on your device. The App is configured to exclude its track databases, settings, and NMEA files from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer. We cannot guarantee how a modified operating system, device manufacturer, backup tool, forensic tool, or other software will treat local files.
When you explicitly export, open, copy, or share a file through Android’s system interfaces, you direct the App to disclose that copy to the destination you select. From that point, the recipient, storage provider, messaging service, other application, or person controls the copy under its own terms and privacy practices. ChiefHead does not control the destination, cannot recall the copy, and is not responsible for access, disclosure, modification, loss, retention, or deletion occurring outside the App.
5. Background location and notifications
GPSCurator uses a location foreground service only after you explicitly start GPS track recording. Android displays an ongoing notification while recording and provides an action to stop it. The App does not request the ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION permission. Depending on Android and device behavior, a foreground recording may continue while the App is not visible until you stop recording, the operating system stops the service, or the device shuts down.
6. Advertising and consent
The free version of GPSCurator may display advertising supplied by Google AdMob. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect and share data such as IP address (which may be used to estimate general location), advertising ID, app-set ID and other device or account identifiers, app launches, taps and other product interactions, and diagnostic information. Google states that it uses this information for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention. Depending on your region, choices, device settings, and Google’s configuration, ads may be personalized or non-personalized.
Where required, GPSCurator uses Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request or update advertising privacy choices before requesting ads. When Google indicates that a privacy-options entry point is required, it is available in GPSCurator Settings. Your choices may be stored or processed by Google and participating advertising providers. ChiefHead does not control the content of ads, Google’s independent processing, advertisers, or destinations opened from an ad.
7. Maps and Mapbox telemetry
GPSCurator uses the Mapbox Maps SDK to request map styles, tiles, and related resources. Mapbox states that its mobile SDK sends de-identified location and usage telemetry by default when the host application causes that information to be gathered. Requests also necessarily expose an IP address and may include device, session, usage, and diagnostic information as described by Mapbox.
The Mapbox attribution control remains available on the map and provides Mapbox privacy information and a telemetry opt-out option. If you opt out, Mapbox may still process information necessary to deliver requested map resources, maintain security, prevent abuse, comply with law, or provide services under its own terms. ChiefHead does not determine Mapbox’s retention periods or independent processing practices.
8. Google Play and other third parties
Google Play and Google Play services may process purchase or subscription status, license information, device and account identifiers, IP address, transaction records, security signals, and diagnostics to distribute the App, verify entitlements, process payments, prevent fraud, and provide platform services. ChiefHead does not receive or store your full payment-card details.
Third-party providers may process information on infrastructure located outside your country and may act as independent controllers or processors under their own terms. Their services, availability, security, retention, disclosures, and compliance are outside ChiefHead’s direct control. References to third-party policies are provided for convenience; those policies may change without notice to us.
9. Permissions
You can deny or revoke device permissions in Android settings. You can stop recording in the App or from its ongoing notification, change available advertising choices in GPSCurator Settings, use the Mapbox telemetry option in the attribution control, reset or delete your Android advertising ID where supported, and choose not to export files. Disabling access may prevent related features from working and does not require a third party to erase information it previously processed where that provider has another lawful basis to retain it.
- Approximate and precise location: GPS telemetry, maps, and route recording.
- Camera: live Satellite AR view; camera frames are not intentionally saved by GPSCurator.
- Notifications: the active track-recording notification and its stop action.
- Internet: map resources, ads, consent messages, purchase-status verification, security, and related third-party services.
10. Retention and deletion
Locally recorded tracks and files remain on your device until you delete them, clear the App’s storage, or uninstall the App. You control exported copies separately and must delete them from each destination yourself. Uninstalling the App or clearing its storage does not delete copies previously exported or information independently retained by Google, Mapbox, an advertiser, another application, a backup provider, a recipient, or the operating system.
Because ChiefHead does not operate a user-account or route-storage server, we ordinarily cannot identify, retrieve, provide, correct, or delete data that exists only on your device or in a third party’s systems. Third-party providers retain and delete data according to their own policies and legal obligations; requests concerning their data should be directed to them.
11. Privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights concerning personal data, such as access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent, or a complaint to a competent supervisory authority. These rights are subject to applicable exceptions and may not apply where ChiefHead does not possess or control the requested data.
To make a request concerning information controlled by ChiefHead, email info@chiefhead.com and describe the request. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify the request and determine whether we hold relevant data. We cannot satisfy requests for device-only data or data controlled solely by a third party. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already lawfully performed.
12. Security and device responsibility
We use reasonable safeguards for App components under our control. Network requests made by the included Google and Mapbox SDKs use encrypted transport where supported by those providers. No application, device, storage system, network, encryption method, or transmission method is completely secure, error-free, or immune from unauthorized access, loss, corruption, interception, malware, device compromise, operating-system defects, or events beyond reasonable control.
You are responsible for securing your device and accounts, installing trustworthy system updates, controlling physical and remote access, reviewing permissions and privacy choices, stopping recordings when appropriate, and checking the sensitivity and destination of every export. Do not export or share location data unless you accept the risks of disclosure and further processing by the selected destination.
13. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
This Policy is a notice describing current practices; it does not create any warranty, fiduciary duty, or contractual guarantee beyond obligations imposed by applicable law. The App and its privacy-related controls are provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, ChiefHead disclaims implied warranties concerning availability, accuracy, reliability, security, non-infringement, merchantability, and fitness for a particular purpose.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ChiefHead is not responsible or liable for third-party services or policies; advertising content or destinations; Mapbox or Google processing; actions you request or authorize; exported or shared data; device, operating-system, network, backup, or account security; unauthorized access outside our reasonable control; loss or corruption of local data; or a failure to stop recording caused by device or platform behavior.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ChiefHead will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, punitive, or consequential loss, loss of data, loss of privacy, loss of opportunity, or loss arising from reliance on the App, even if advised that such loss was possible. Nothing in this Policy excludes, restricts, or waives a right, remedy, obligation, or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted, or waived.
14. Location and safety limitations
Location, GNSS, sensor, map, altitude, speed, heading, telemetry, and route information may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, unavailable, or affected by the device, surroundings, satellite visibility, network, map data, software, battery state, and third-party services. GPSCurator is a general-purpose utility, not an emergency, aviation, maritime, medical, public-safety, surveying, or other safety-critical system. Do not rely on it as your sole source of navigation or safety information, and do not operate the App where doing so would be unsafe or unlawful.
15. Children
GPSCurator is a general navigation utility and is not directed to children under 13 or any higher minimum age required in a user’s country. We do not knowingly operate a server that collects personal information directly from children through the App. Parents and guardians should supervise device permissions, location recording, file sharing, purchases, and advertising choices. 16. Changes to this Policy
We may change this Policy when the App, SDKs, providers, practices, or legal requirements change. The effective date identifies the latest version. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice or request consent. Continued use after an update does not waive any consent or other right that applicable law requires to be obtained separately.
